Three Amazing People HELP us connect! All because of Social/Biz Networking!

“Help” Is On The Way.

HELP Campaign

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Dec 03, 2009 – This past fall, three creative people, Danny Beckett of Spearia, Cindy Grace, a freelance writer, and Lisa Lehmann, a jewelry artist met over the Internet at the social media sites Facebook and Twitter. They soon discovered that they all had a passion for helping others. Danny tossed out the idea of a community Thanksgiving dinner and within the span of one week they organized and planned “The First Annual Downtown Turkey Throwdown” in Grand Rapids.

Built on the concept that sharing time and food with your neighbor is nourishment for both body and soul, they had one planning meeting, jumped on social media to spread the word and asked people to bring a dish to pass and a donation of non-perishable food items for Mel Trotter Ministries. The response was overwhelming. As word spread, local individuals and businesses stepped up to provide the essentials for a Thanksgiving meal that attracted close to 100 participants. Within 15 minutes of the event’s start, the barrel to collect food for Mel Trotter was overflowing and people from all walks of life were sharing food and friendship.

From this single event, the idea for the HELP Campaign was born. Danny, Cindy and Lisa realized that they could put their creative talents to use to help people and this became the vision statement for the newly formed HELP Campaign…to make a difference in this world by being creative. The organization’s mission is to help and serve others through creativity.

The trio is already hard a work on several new events. A 501C-3 organization, The HELP Campaign will officially be launched at the First Annual Downtown SleighDown. This inaugural event is planned for Saturday December 19th at Monroe Mall from 1 pm – 8 pm.

Participants are asked to build their own Christmas themed human-powered sliding machine to race at the event. An old mattress, cardboard boxes, cookie sheets...whatever is acceptable, just as long as it screams "Christmas." Prizes will be awarded to race winners and for most creative sliding contraption.

The race entry fee is 10 dollars. All proceeds from the race will be donated to x non-profit.

HELP Campaign is also partnering with the Grand Rapids YMCA to promote the Hats & Mittens Project. Collection barrels will be at the Downtown SleighDown to collect hats, mittens and scarves because every kid living in the “Mitt” deserves to be warm.  A community potluck style Christmas dinner will wrap up the event.

HELP Campaign will also help the YMCA launch the Hats & Mittens Project by providing assistance at the Community Christmas Cookie Kick-Off at the Wolverine World Wide YMCA at 6555 Jupiter Avenue in Belmont on Sunday, December 13th from 1-4 pm.
