#7 -a yellow dress and purple flowers! #50NewToDosBefore50

#7 Learn a favorite memory from Mom/Dad Johnson:

She smiled when she told the memory of her engagement- during a Spring Prom at Western Michigan University.

"I made my own dress - I had a feeling this was the night and I wanted it to be perfect. It was yellow and I remember wanting a violet bouquet. Bob went all over town looking for violets but they weren't in season. I remember thinking I really wanted violets! He did give me purple flowers."

She laughs thinking of the fun at the after party. "We drove to Marshall and slept the night at my girlfriends house. There were 6 of us and we laughed and celebrated. Maddie's mom made us breakfast the next morning."

I listened to my mother-in-law and thought... Wow- except for the gala balls and gowns -college and engagements are similarly romantic today. Love is pretty standard - aren't we all the better for that.

Bob and Sally have been married over 50 years. They have 9 kids, 25 grandkids and 8 great grand kids with another on the way!

#3 of #50 New To Do's Before 50! : Time to Burn The Donuts!

I start this post as a reminder one of my rules in this 50 day adventure was to do nothing that would cause anyone to lose a life or limb.
Whew - Lucky to have made it to Day #4!

My Day was Titled:  Time To Make The Donuts.   I have never made Donuts and who doesn't like Donuts - safe and fun right?

I give you a photo display of what NOT to do when you attempt your first Donut Creation:

1) Google Search How To Make Donuts
2) Find a cool idea - Use Biscuits and healthy Coconut Oi "Easy Breezy Fry On Your Stove!"

2) My neighbor supplies the Biscuits and off we go!
Place biscuits (we used Cinna-Buns) on flat surface.

3) Use a bottle top to cut "holes" in your newly created donuts! (how cool is that!)

Photo_feb_19_7_51_07_pm

4) Have your friendly neighbor get the "Oil" ready for frying
(Here is our first mistake - we thought super hot!!! OF COURSE!!! )

Photo_feb_19_7_56_56_pm

5)  Note To Self:   Don't goof around while boiling hot oil.

Photo_feb_19_7_57_20_pm

6)  Because this is what happens to the "concept" of "easy" to "fry" Donuts on the Stove!

Photo_feb_19_8_00_49_pm

7)  Yep.... "Time To Burn The Donuts!"

Photo_feb_19_8_29_44_pm

Let's just say that the pan with the oil overheated.... smoke alarms went off... and the frying pan ended up in the garage.
Seriously - glad to be celebrating #4 and appreciate the quick thinking action of all of us screaming like chickens with our heads cut off!

Coming up:  I believe a VERY SAFE:  Try a candy bar I've never tasted before!  Any Suggestions?

Weaving A Good Morning

This is our morning.

Mom:   Up and Adam Adam Ant!!!  Luke - how are you feeling - any better?

Luke:  Yep (mumble through covers)

Mom:  Time to get up!

-------- 10 minutes later ---------

Mom:   LUKE (calls down the stairs) YOU UP?

Luke:  (mumble through covers)

Mom:  LUKE get up buddy!

------- 10 minutes later------

Mom:  LUKE - GET UP  - ELLIE IS UP YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE!!!

Luke:  (no mumble)

----- 10 minutes later -----

Ellie:  I'm ready - Luke is just getting out of bed.

Mom:   ELLIE - TELL LUKE (Luke can obviously hear this) THAT HE MUST GET UP NOW BRUSH HIS TEETH AND GET OUT THE DOOR .... NOT KIDDING....

Ellie:  turns away to tell Luke

Luke:  (I see him pass by)

Dad:   "Hey - Luke not feeling great yet  -  I warmed up his car before he left."

The Weave of the Day:    Put yourself in the other person's shoes and ask what you can do to make their day a little brighter.  Obviously Dad is better at that than Mom on some days.
